Our schemes include many public parks, gardens and green space improvement schemes at a variety of scales. We create beautiful spaces that improve access and enhance the place for people to enjoy. We work with a range of other professions and have a thorough knowledge of materials and construction techniques to produce a distinctive, robust and sustainable spaces for people and nature.
Urban spaces and the connection between them are a very important part of the fabric of towns and cities. (The Pearls and the Necklace). The ‘Necklace’ is often created by existing river and canal corridors, the ‘Pearls’ offer the spaces and opportunities for rest and recreation. Above Zero professionals believe the creation of a beautiful and successful urban space can only be achieved through the understanding of the spirit of the place and its function within the overall green network. We pride ourselves on creating quality, functional and robust places to improve the lives of people in our towns and cities.
Designers at Above Zero have designed and implemented a broad range of play spaces (both in terms of size and age group) from inception through to completion. Many projects have been realised as a result of external grant funding applications and involved community participation and artists. We advocate removing boundaries to play and using the natural environment, prescriptive equipment and bespoke features to create playful, educational and tactile spaces.

Sustainable places are achieved through community participation, stakeholder engagement and an ultimate sense of ownership. Above Zero have considerable skills and experience in engaging with a wide variety of user-groups and interested parties. We can facilitate and advise on the correct approach for engagement based on the individual project requirements and anticipated end use. We encourage local and stakeholder participation during the development and operational phases. Amongst other skills, we particularly find local people have a great ability to research and collect historic references which add to the richness of the project
We love promoting and supporting arts and crafts and experimenting with materials and processes to create bespoke artwork features. We feel art should have a strong sense of place and be developed through community ideas and research with a strong professional lead. Artwork is often best where it is low level, tactile and interactive. We work with a range of artists and craftspeople across the country find the right solution.
